How Gerrymandering Distorts Political Representation in NC and Options for Change

Every 10 years after the Census, legislative districts are redrawn to reflect changes in population. Gerrymandering is the practice of manipulating district boundaries to the advantage of a political party. North Carolina is one of the most gerrymandered states in the nation. This League of Women Voters panel will discuss how politicians manipulate voting maps in North Carolina and options for pursuing redistricting reform.

This meeting is free and open to the public. It is not affiliated with any political candidate or party.

Presenters:

Our guest speakers are all members of the League of Women Voters of Wake County Redistricting Committee including Dianna Wynn, Phyllis Demko, Cheryl Tung, and Sheila Denn. They have been quoted in numerous media publications and broadcasts on the issue of gerrymandering, presented testimony before the redistricting committees in the legislature, met with legislators about redistricting reform, and spoken to other groups of concerned citizens in the community.
